The Bridge – by Kay Bratt – independent book review – Historical Fiction (China)

A beautiful novelette about the relationship that develops between an old Chinese woman and the abandoned blind boy she finds and tries to help. Awarded four stars on Goodreads.

This is a short (51 pages), simple and beautifully written tale of compassion, generosity, and the discovery of unexpected love.

It takes place in present day China and is built around the legend of The Lucky Bridge, which once blessed new marriages but is now a site where women often abandoned unwanted children.
