A compelling autobiographical offering from actor Alan Cumming, the entertainer who introduces PBS’s MYSTERY series. But this is no celebrity tell-all. Instead, it’s the story of the actor coming to terms with his family, including the childhood abuse he suffered at the hands of his father, and the family secrets concerning his grandfather who died mysteriously in Malaysia some 60 years ago.
Cuming’s writing is forthright, powerful, and his story grabs you from the very first page. Some chapters tell stories from his youth. Others are more contemporary and revolve around a British genealogy program which helps Cuming uncover some of his own story.
It’s a quick read and a reasonably interesting one.
