15 Finalists – Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest

The aspect of photography that draws me the most is the power of seeing one single moment that you could easily blink and miss. And seeing that picture can instantaneously trigger surprisingly strong emotions. Like the image above titled “Hug” by Deniz Kalayci. 

Sometimes a photo might spark a visceral appreciation of the beauty of our natural world,

A surprising curiosity,

Sudden and deep sadness, or

Elation at our individual connection to a wider and infinitely varied world.
